Its summertime, and the living should be easy, but infestations of summer pests can suck the fun out of the lazy days of summer. NPMA recently contributed insights on summer pest prevention and management for a Money magazine article about how to say goodbye to pests without breaking the bank.
One of the main themes of the article was eliminating inviting spaces and entryways pests often use to get into homes. For example, wiping up crumbs and spills, keeping food in tightly sealed containers, drying out damp spots like leaky sinks and refrigerators, and sealing cracks or holes in doors, windows or screens can discourage pests from settling inside.
Another preventive measure is to get your home inspected before a problem occurs, especially if a neighbor has had a problem with insects like termites or carpenter ants. Paying $100 or so a year for an annual inspection can save money in the long run if it prevents a costly infestation of destructive pests.
However, if you do suspect an infestation and see more than a few of any one insect, its time to call a qualified pest professional for an inspection and treatment recommendation.
With these tips from NPMA and Money magazine, we hope you will have a safe and happy rest of your summer!
